Hey Guys We have Moved To Our New Website Kindly Visit It At Sailor World For The Latest Posts.

In India there are very few course conducted for joining the merchant navy although there are more than 130 DGS Approved Institutes in India. Two years before one could join merchant navy by simply doing a 3 months course for deck cadet and would be eligible for getting the Indian CDC but now there is a lots of happening in this branch now a days one has to undergo a 1yr course of Diploma In Nautical Science so as to join as a Deck Cadet in Indian or foreign ship, On the other hand one who desires to join as an Engineer has to undergo atleaast 1yr course of GME (Graduate Mechanical Engineer) for joining as a Trainee Marine Engineer Or Junior Engineer. If someone wants to join in a hurry or have a financial need could join merchant navy doing a 6 months course of GP Rating after which one can join the ship as a Ordinary Seamen with further sea service and qualification he can be promoted to the level of Captain Of the Ship.Lists of courses for Merchant navy are as follow:-
  • One year Pre-Sea Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS)  leading to B.Sc Nautical Science affiliated to Indian Maritime University.
  • 3-Year B.Sc. Degree in Nautical Science.
  • 4 Years B.S. [Nautical Technology].
  • 4-Year Degree course in Marine Engineering.
  • 1-year Marine Engineering Course.(GME Course).
  • 2-years  Marine Engineering course for Diploma holders.(DME Course).
  • 6 Months course for GP Rating.
  • 6 months Certificate Course in Maritime Catering.
Other than this there are many other courses going on in india conducted by some private institutes these courses are :-
  • 5 months Deck cadet course under AMSA Australia (Foriegn CDC)
  • 5 months Deck cadet course under New Zealand Process (Foreign CDC)
Upon successfull completion of this course you will be awarded Cerrtificate in Shipping and Transport along with a Foreign CDC such as Panama CDC or UK CDC and after that you have to undergo 18months structured sea service with distance learning process an you may be promoted to the Master of the ship.Although these courses are going on in india but it have no gurantee of placement and DGS have already stated in one of the rule that foreign CDC are not valid in indian shipping companies the person holding a foreign CDC would not be able to join as a Rating Or a Deck Officers. So in my opinion please join these courses at your own risk.
